It’s in our blood: tracking early signs of colorectal cancer

ColoMARK is an EU-funded research project focused on improving early detection of colorectal cancer using innovative liquid biopsy techniques. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions program, ColoMARK trains the next generation of scientists working across multidisciplinary fields like genetics, microbiomes, and bioinformatics. The Medical University of Graz leads the effort to find new biomarkers for early-stage colorectal cancer by analyzing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in blood samples. This approach aims to detect cancer earlier, monitor disease progression, and identify risks of recurrence. To explain this exciting research in an easy-to-understand way, we created a short animated video showing how liquid biopsy works and the impact of ColoMARK. Our ultimate goal is to make ctDNA testing a reliable tool for early diagnosis, enabling timely treatment and improving patient survival.
